Quote From The Lotus Sutra, Vol. 3

“You should understand, Kaśyapa: By causal explanations and various kinds of parables, I open and reveal the Buddha way. This is my method of skillful means; all Buddhas do the same. What I teach you and the others now is the utmost truth: None has attained extinction as a śrāvaka; what you are practicing is the Bodhisattva way. As you gradually practice and learn, every one of you should become a Buddha.”

Excerpts From A Discourse of The Lotus Sutra

Venerable Xiao Pingshi

What does this tell us? It tells us that there is only the ‘single Buddha Vehicle.’ When all buddhas manifest the attainment of Buddhahood and expound the Dharma in the human world, their original intention was actually to expound only the “single Buddha Vehicle.” The essence of the “single Buddha Vehicle” cannot be differentiated into the three separate vehicles, as in the Three-Vehicle Bodhi. Because sentient beings are incapable of fully comprehending the Path to Buddhahood, the buddhas formulate the Dharma into three progressive vehicles, from easy to difficult, and teach them these sequentially so they can achieve realization in sequence and finally comprehend the Path to Buddhahood.”
